Disspointment
Tintin.
Thought it was live action, and it isn’t. I’m not sure why motion capture is of any interest…Is it because it accurately captures human movement and facial expressions? Aren’t we watching a cartoon, though? So what is the point? Isn’t the very pleasure derived from animation (and from the incredible Herge books too) one of delving into the unreal with no hesitation. Why straddle the line?
Tintin has officially crashed into the pits of the Uncanny Valley.

Ingenuity.
Thank you Malcolm and Brent for sharing this.

“It was Winkler’s mentor, Jason Reitman, who encouraged him to write the script that became Ceremony.”
-From NYMAG puff piece on Max Winkler
This does not bode well for anything.

Crazy. Off of this still alone, I hope this film wins a prize for best hair/makeup.

The greatest film of all time.

Alan Berliner after a screening of his masterpiece, NOBODY’S BUSINESS. Seeing this film in L.Dombrowski’s 310 was a landmark experience in my cinematic upbringing.
-
Chris Ware. Clearly this will go down as one of the great posters of all time.
“I wanted to get at both the transcendent solemnity of the film while keeping some sense of its loose, very unpretentious accessibility. This being a poster, however — and even worse, me not really being a designer — I realized it also had to be somewhat punchy and strange, so as to draw viewers in and pique their curiosity without, hopefully, insulting their intelligence.”

Sundance - end of day one
Screened so far: Pariah Shorts program Martha Marcy may Marlene Here On the ice The woods
After six films, it is my conclusion that the state of the union is strong. Very proud of American independent film right now.
